Many homeowners put premium in designing their driveways because it is the first part of your property that people see before entering the house. It may impress or disappoint visitors as they may relate the driveway design to the character of the homeowners. A bare front yard may be associated with bland, uncaring or miserly character. A front yard of confused and unstructured decoration may speak of an indecisive, fickle or unorganized character. Meanwhile, a well-structured and carefully planned front yard may signify an organized, thorough, or welcoming character.
There are some points homeowners need to consider when designing a driveway. If you place accessories such as fountains or shrubs, make sure you can easily go around it or easily access your garage or parking space. Make sure to make careful measurements so that you can navigate your driveway without so much trouble. Make sure to also consider your guests. A walkway leading to your front door would be very helpful in case your driveway would serve as temporary parking space for your guests’ cars. Make sure the space is wide enough such that two people can walk together side by side comfortably.
If you can afford it, you can have an additional parking space or areas to turn around on in your driveway. It would be perfect if these spaces lead out of your garage or parking area straight to the street. If you structure your driveway in a circular manner, it would be less the hassle if the space is wide enough such that a car may back out and exit even if it is in between two cars. Proper measurement is key. It may seem like such structure is too wide but you can maximize even a modest space if you measure correctly. Adequate spacing between your front door and your driveway should also be considered where the parking space is just outside the area where front door is. Make sure that people can exit or enter through the front door and move around comfortably even if there are cars parked in the parking space.
Inasmuch as you want your driveway to comfortably accommodate your car and your guests’ cars, be sure not to overdo it. You can opt for a narrow driveway if your space is not really enough for a wider one. With proper landscaping you can create an illusion of a wider driveway. You don’t have to sacrifice some areas in your house in order to give way to a wider driveway. Concentrate on making do with whatever space there is for a driveway.
